My venado mask "Mazatl" at Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, Ca with a curatorial artist talk on Friday, September 13 at noon. The exhibition runs through Saturday, October 5, 2024.
A very beautiful and conceptual wide array of absolutely gorgeous 3-dimensional collections of very fine arts! You will be glad to have made the trip, and if you want a contrast to SF weather, this trip is well worth your while.
I am proud to have my corn husk mask included because this piece is about celebrating the sacred. In Mexico, it incorporates the unusual with enchantment, transforming into mythical pasts, wearing handcrafted costumes to partake in an enchanting, dream-like festivity. This is where the border between the spirit and natural worlds dissolves. This Mazatl headpiece is an hommage to the Yaqui (Yoeme) deer dance of Sonora, a form of storytelling that conveys spiritual messages and depicts life lessons.
